The maker's water guidance
From ECM's guidance for this model.
Hardness, highest: up to 4 °dH
“You should use water with a hardness of max. 4° dH in order to protect your machine from lime scale damage. When necessary, make use of a water softener / water filter cartridge in order to reach an adequate hardness degree.”
Descaling
“If these measures are insufficient, a prophylactic descaling of the machine may be necessary. Contact your specialised dealer before undertaking this measure. An already calcified machine may only be descaled by your specialised dealer because a partial disassembly of the boiler and the tubing may be necessary to prevent the system from being blocked by lime residues.”
Water type
“Do not operate the machine with carbonated water, but with soft, potable water.”
