The maker's water guidance
From ECM's guidance for this model.
Hardness, highest: up to 4 °dH
“You should use water with a hardness of max. 4° dH in order to protect your machine from lime scale damage. When necessary, make use of a water softener in order to reach an adequate hardness level.”
Water filter
“Please note that no water filter may be attached to the water tank adapter in machines with a rotary pump. Only water filter pads, which are placed directly into the water tank, may be used. You may also use water which has previously been filtered.”
Descaling
“A calcified machine may only be descaled by your specialised dealer because a partial disassembly of the boiler and the tubing may be necessary to prevent the system from being blocked by lime residues.”
Plumbed-in water
“To avoid calcification of the machine a water-softener is recommended.”
