The maker's water guidance
From ECM's guidance for this model.
Hardness, highest: up to 4 °dH
“To protect your machine from limescale damage, only use water that‘s not too hard, with a hardness level of up to 4° dH.”
Descaling
“A calcified machine should only be descaled by a qualified technician in our authorized dealer as it may require partial disassembly of the boiler and tubing to prevent clogging of the entire system by limescale residues. Delaying descaling can result in significant damage to the machine.”
Water filter
“You can also use a water filter cartridge (item no. AC100027-00) in the water tank (under the water tank lid) to help reduce limescale in the water and protect your espresso machine from limescale.”
Water type
“Water tank machines or machines in water tank use: Do not operate the machine with carbonated water, but with soft, potable water.”
